Evergreen Islamic Center

San Jose, California

Over several months in 2019, I worked on this project for Evergreen Islamic Center in San Jose, California. The project began with the mihrab area in February, and then I worked on the dome over several weeks during the summer.

A special thank you for the support and duas from my husband, family and friends, and the amazing community at EIC — this project could never have been possible without all of them.

Text Translation

Mihrab: “I testify that there is no god but God, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.”

Dome: “Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche with in which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly [white] star, lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire.
Light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills. And Allah presents examples for the people, and Allah is Knowing of all things. (Quran, 24:35)
